The Essence Campaign is a special photography project by Cory Powell Photography. Our mission is to empower women through creating beautiful portraits showcasing their true essence of strength and beauty while reminding them how extraordinary they are. Tell me your story!

I am a 51 year young recent breast cancer/double mastectomy survivor. And I'm living my best life ever now! Growing up, I was a chubby girl with big boobs and bigger body issues that haunted me until I met my husband, Kenny. We have been together 20 years now and he gave me all I needed to feel like I belonged in my body, however it looked. Through his constant support, encouragement and constant compliments reassuring me how beautiful, confident and sexy I truly am. And I own it now! While I give a ton of credit to my husband for getting me out of my own head, I take all the credit for loving myself: flaws, few extra pounds, fake boobs and all! My journey isn't over yet, but to me, I'll likely never be as beautiful as I am right now. Perfectly imperfect.

What is your definition of beauty?

Confidence in yourself. Mind, body and soul.

Do you fit your definition of beauty?

I do! Cory and his team made me feel so beautiful and at ease and did such an amazing job with my makeup! And there are no words to say how I felt upon seeing my pictures! I felt like a model when I saw them. I had no idea I had it in me to look that GOOD!!

What about the woman you are today makes you uniquely powerful?

I believe in myself and my power to face any challenge thrown my way!

These photoshoots are about celebrating yourself. What do you want to celebrate about yourself?

That I'm alive! And sexier than ever after the toughest and most life/body-altering 6 months of my life. However, I won't lie, I have never been one to take photos well or often. Cory did such an amazing job putting me at ease before he ever picked up the camera and I was able to let go and enjoy the experience. So much so, I can't wait to have my last surgery behind me and do it again!! And I'm bringing my husband next time too! Hands down this has been one of the best experiences I have ever had, with beautiful photos to memorialize it. Every woman should have that feeling at least once in her life!

Why are beautiful photos & booking a photoshoot important to you right now?

So I can remember even when things aren't okay, they will be! Thank you Cory for showing me that 5 months post-double mastectomy I still look damn good!
