Our 40 Over 40 Photoshoots are a special photography project within our larger project called the Essence Campaign by Cory Powell Photography. Our mission is to empower women through creating beautiful portraits showcasing their true essence of strength and beauty while reminding them how extraordinary they are. There is nothing more beautiful and powerful than celebrating your true, authentic self. More than ever, right now the world needs us all to allow our light to shine through – that’s why I’m so passionate about this project – the Essence Campaign.

This is an invitation to YOU to celebrate who you are and be a part of the Essence Campaign. Real transformation comes from investing in yourself, from filling yourself up first and allowing it to overflow. Tell me your story!

I’m a Brazilian physician living in Texas. I have an amazing husband and son and surround myself with family, good friends and positive energy. Healthy food, lots of traveling, exercising and volunteer work are all part of my life. I’m constantly trying to improve as a person and become a better version of myself. I love my parents, my sister, the arts, movie making, photography, sunny days, rainy nights, yoga, long walks and social activities. I try to meditate more and consume less. I’m a dermatopathologist (I diagnose skin biopsies under the microscope) and I really enjoy my job. Confidence and kindness are things I value. In 5 years, I plan to be more fit, work less and spend a year with my family in Hawaii or abroad.

What is your definition of beauty? Do you feel like you fit your definition of beauty?

Beauty is knowing how to carry yourself and feeling confident about it. It’s being aware of your best angles and smiling a lot.

I felt beautiful in a simple and down to earth way. This experience has boosted my confidence to the next level.

What about the woman you are today makes you uniquely powerful?

I feel wiser and more confident as I mature as a woman. I have a better understanding now, that beauty is a combination of many different things. My power is who I have become and everything I have accomplished.

What do you want to celebrate with your photoshoot?

My choices in life.

Why did you decide to book a photoshoot?

I am very fulfilled and happy with my life in many aspects and taking these beautiful pictures allowed me to document this precious moment in time.
